I've finished the nuts and bolts of bringing interactive (somewhat) Google maps to Motoescapism (Motogooglescapemaps). Using various plugins and tools from several magnificent developers, I've created an area that allows me to publish customized maps with place markers and routing. You can find the Map Room
under the Galleries menu item above. The first map is now live in there; it is a preview map of the route I'm going to take on my western US sport touring ride
in the upcoming weeks. The idea being that for each of my journals, I'll now be able to supplement it with a map that will include the more interesting places I went with placemarkers all laid out. The only thing I'm still struggling with is how an opened placemarker is getting formatted. That's all CSS junk and wizardry that in the intervening months since I last really did this sort of work, has atrophied considerably. I'll fix it when I get back... from Montana!!!!!!

Good News Everyone... over in the Moto Journals
section, I've completed a five page journal of my 2005 Thanksgiving Week ride through six national parks. It was my first ride over 1,000 miles in length and was quite an adventurous and physically trying experience. I've also uploaded a photo album of that sport touring ride
for you to have a look through. For some reason the photos aren't quite up to the digital quality I like, I think there was an export problem, so I'll try to fix those over the coming weeks. The parks I road through were Zion National Park , Bryce Canyon National Park , Cedar Breaks National Monument , Yosemite National Park , Kings Canyon National Park and Sequoia National Park and Monument. I also spent a day crossing the state of Nevada
with interesting results. If you look at the animated area on the front page, as of today, a lot of those pictures are from this tour, so you can imagine it was one helluva ride.

I've added titles and captions to the Yosemite '07 tour photo album. You'll get some idea of how the trip went. I admit it's not quite the same as a full fledged trip write up, like the Morro Bay Tour , but I'm getting there, I'm getting there. It's taking me a while to remember how to add things, edit things, link, add photos, etc. so the going is a little slow for now. Hell it's a miracle I even remembered the passwords and ID's to log into the site.
I do have to say I'm very pleased with the resilience of the Motoescapism site. Everything is exactly where I left it and nothing is, seemingly, overtly broken. That bodes well for adding more stuff now that I'm of a mind to do so.

I've allowed this site to sit fallow for far too long, so I'm committing to updating the site in some fashion, some way, at least once a month with new content. The idea of not having posted anything here in nearly a year isn't exactly what I was after when I spent many, many hours putting this together last May, so, despite the fact that all my web site skills have atrophied, I'm going to start putting new stories, journals, photo albums and panoramics up as soon as I can do it without embarassing myself.
So there you have it, watch this space, new content coming soon. That's a promise.

After many weeks of work and many miles of road, I am very proud to present Moto Escapism! I am excited to be bringing you journals from various trips I've taken and extensive coverage of the sport touring trips I've conducted. This month brings you a wide variety of items to whet your escapist whistle. Let's start with the moto stuff. If you take a gander over in the Moto Journals , you can hear about my motorcycle trips through Death Valley , Arizona and the eastern parts of San Diego on my trusty Triumph Sprint ST . This stuff is almost as fun to write about as it is to actually get out there and ride (almost!). You'll learn how to repair a bent shift lever , how not to use the macro feature on your camera , and just how far you can trust a GPS. If you shift down a gear into the vacation journals, I've put up a report of my trip to Germany last October complete with 183 pictures covering each and every stop along the way. I had a great time over there and I hope you will enjoy the stories and photos. And if all that stuff isn't enough, the photo album is already chock full of stuff to keep you occupied if you're bored at work! So that's what I'm going live with. Take a look around and dip a toe into the water, I know you're going to like it! |
