Helen Lake Frozen in Lassen Volcanic PDF Print E-mail

Leaving the central valley of California, the temperature, which had been hovering between 90 and 100 degrees dropped.  Fast.  By the time I had passed through the entrance into Lassen Volcanic National Park, there was snow everywhere and many of the lakes and ponds still had sheets of ice covering them.  This panoramic photo is of Helen Lake, just before the Bumpass Hell trailhead.

Hayden Valley in Yellowstone National Park PDF Print E-mail
Written by Daniel Hienzsch

After a massive day of hiking and riding all around Yellowstone, I made a deal with myself that I would grab dinner and hunker down in a turnout above Hayden Valley and spend an hour or two watching the sunset.  Words fail me to describe what it was like there.  This photo doesn't even do it justice.  Down in the valley were about a half dozen Bison, there were probably 30 to 50 Elk across the valley laying in a glade just in front of the tree line, and a coyote ran among the sage in front of me as I sat there.

Morro Rock is a large volcanic plug, millions of years old, that stands at the northwest corner of Morro Bay on California's central coast.  I visited there during my Morro Bay sport touring ride in 2005 and had a great time.  When Robyn and I visited the rock, I took some time to shoot a bunch of slices for later stitching.  The end result after many hours of computation, are seen below.

Red Cathedral Panoramic Photo PDF Print E-mail

Robyn and I hiked back into Gold Canyon in Death Valley towards Red Cathedral.  When we got towards the back of the canyon, we climbed up the sandstone slope a bit and sat down to eat our lunch.  The sun was shining bright and I wanted to try to capture the full expanse of the view so I took out the Canon Powershot A520 and captured the images below.

These images were then stitched together using a variety of commercial (shareware) software packages.  Each image has been reduced in resolution from the original 150 dpi to 72 dpi.  In the original 150 dpi, the final composite produces a high quality printout 8in high by 20in wide.  The compressed final JPG below is 57KB in size.  The original 150 dpi TIFF file is 73.1MB in size.

I took the photos that comprise this panoramic while on the San Diego East Tour.   It shows Lake Elsinore from high on the side of Highway 74.  I had never been there before and as I came over the rise and saw the lake spread out before me, I was shocked at the wide landscape before me.  The individual slices were taken using a Canon Powershot A520.  They were then subsequently stitched together using a variety of commercial (shareware) software packages.  Each image has been reduced in resolution from the original 150 dpi to 72 dpi.  In the original 150 dpi, the final composite produces a high quality printout 15in high by 32in wide.  The compressed final JPG below is 923KB in size.  The original 150 dpi TIFF file is 44MB in size.
